In my very first post, I’d like to tell you how my passion for street photography started and flourished. While continuing my corporate career, I was attending various photography courses; however I didn’t know which area to focus on. My trip to India has been a turning point in my life, as well as photographic perspective. In India, around 100 million people live on the street. When you think about it, this is more than the entire population of Turkey. In India, you can witness everything on the street. People sleep, eat and sometimes shower on the street. Some toilets don’t even have a door, which is amazing, you don’t believe it? Here is the proof:
I was fascinated by the liveliness of street life and the richness of photographic material. Before my trip, family and friends kept telling me: “don’t go there, it’s dirty and smelly”. However, this entire atmosphere of crowd, smell, dust and noise actually exhilarated me. When I came back to my office, I had a hard time adjusting to my daily routine. The 10 days I spent in India seemed like an illusion. I strongly recommend you to travel to India. It’s very rich in many ways. You can see some of my photos in the Portfolio section.
After my India trip, I became curious about street life. I became better at observing people walking on the street. I focused on catching good shots, even without the camera. However, observation isn’t enough. I decided to learn the details of street photography, that’s how I ended up going to New York. I will tell you more about this experience in my next blog post.
